Operating Room Technology (B.Sc.)

The Bachelor of Operating Room Technology is a four-year undergraduate program offered by the School of Allied Medical Sciences at Shahroud University of Medical Sciences. The program is designed to educate competent operating room professionals who play a critical role in surgical teams by ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of perioperative patient care.

The curriculum integrates fundamental medical sciences with specialized theoretical and practical education in perioperative care. Students acquire comprehensive knowledge in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, surgical pathology, sterilization and infection control, surgical instrumentation, anesthesia principles, patient safety, and operating room management. The program also emphasizes the development of technical proficiency, critical thinking, teamwork, and professional ethics, enabling students to respond effectively to the dynamic environment of modern surgical practice.

Clinical education is a key component of the program. Under the supervision of experienced faculty members and clinical instructors, students complete extensive clinical training in the University's affiliated teaching hospitals. During their clinical rotations, they gain hands-on experience in preparing operating rooms, maintaining sterile techniques, handling surgical instruments and equipment, assisting surgical teams before, during, and after surgical procedures, and ensuring patient safety throughout the perioperative process. Students are exposed to a wide range of surgical specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, and other specialized fields.

Graduates of the program are qualified to work as Operating Room Technologists in public and private hospitals, specialized surgical centers, ambulatory surgery centers, and other healthcare institutions. They also have opportunities to pursue postgraduate education and participate in research in surgical sciences, perioperative care, and other related healthcare disciplines.
